At the 2025 International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress (WCC), experts and practitioners reflect on how addressing climate change requires a deep integration of nature, governance, and community action. Under the theme “Reducing Climate Overshoot Risks,” the discussion emphasizes that achieving climate goals depends not only on technological innovation, but also on protecting ecosystems, reforming governance, and empowering local leadership.

Sandeep Sengupta (IUCN), Hari Krishna Nibanupudi (IUCN Commission on Education and Communication), Manuel Pulgar-Vidal (IUCN Climate Crisis Commission), Christina Voigt (IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law), James Musinguzi (Uganda Wildlife Authority), and Lawrence Zikusoka (Conservation Through Public Health) share insights on how nature-based solutions, rights-based adaptation, and systemic policy change can reduce overshoot risks and build a more resilient, climate-secure future.
