We are excited to share some encouraging news during this difficult time of the corona virus pandemic,  the birth of two baby gorillas in Nshongi and Muyambi Gorilla Families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

In an announcement made on May 8 2020, Uganda Wildlife Authority stated that “It is a Gorilla Birth in Lockdown and Nshongi Group in Rushaga welcomes a new family member”. By this time, the baby In Nshongi family was 7 days old and mother Kabagyenyi and Father, Bweza were tightly guarding the baby gorilla.

On May 9 2020, UWA announced the birth of another baby in Muyambi Gorilla Family born in late April. “Yes, we are celebrating 2 baby Gorillas, it is a double celebration”

Since mountain gorillas are endangered with only an estimated 1063 individuals, every new birth signifies hope for the survival of these species and a great boost to the efforts of Uganda Wildlife Authority, CTPH and other conservation partners.
