Celebrate World Gorilla Day with us

Greetings from Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH).

Although every day is Gorilla Day for CTPH, on 24th September the World joins hands to celebrate these majestic animals – our closest non-human relatives! Help us make World Gorilla Day 2020 more impactful and memorable than ever – take a look at what you can do to help below.

Never before have we been so acutely aware of the interconnectedness of humans and wildlife as we are now, as we struggle with the COVID-19 pandemic, widely thought to have originated in wet markets where wild animals are kept in dire conditions and the risk of spillover events is high.

It’s time we started thinking about our wildlife and wild areas differently – acknowledging their vital importance in our global biosphere as well as their vital importance to our survival, health and wellbeing. And where better to start than with our closest living non-human relatives – GORILLAS!

Here are some ideas for what you can do as you join us to celebrate WORLD GORILLA DAY!

We’ve teamed up with Ugandan artist #Gasuza to create a special World Gorilla Day Song! Some of the proceeds go to CTPH’s projects on protecting our mountain gorillas. Download the song on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and Amazon here. Subscribe to Team Gorilla MTN Uganda CallerTunez, SMS, TUNE 5188852 to 170. Share the links to help us spread #TeamGorillaSong widely.

All through the day on 24th September there will be other exciting posts on CTPH social media including videos from some of the donors, staff and community members who are working with us at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Wildlife Warriors Kids Newsletter

We are very grateful to Wildlife Direct who produce a Wildlife Warriors Kids Newsletter for children between 8 to 14 years and will have a special edition featuring Gorillas and the work of CTPH to commemorate World Gorilla Day. Look out for your copy here.

Other Ways to get involved
  • Have a birthday coming up and wondering how to make it memorable and special despite the social distancing measures? Choose birthday impact over birthday presents and make your birthday make a difference! Organize a birthday fundraiser and ask your friends and family to donate to CTPH’s gorilla conservation and community health programmes instead of buying birthday presents this year! A special thank you to the Lundins who have visited the gorillas at Bwindi and hosted a birthday fundraiser in September to support our work with the mountain gorillas.
  • Make a donation to gorilla conservation this World Gorilla Day. What better day to honor gorillas than today! We would like to thank the Woodsfords who first visited the gorillas at Bwindi in 1994, for their generous donation in memory of their daughter, Bridget Woodsford, a great childhood friend of Dr. Gladys.
  • Organize a World Gorilla Day fundraiser at your company, school or neighborhood to support gorilla conservation.
  • Shop to support our work
  • Don’t keep this to yourself! Share a post on social media and tag us on our social media pages below when posting your message with a hashtag #WorldGorillaDay

Thank you so much for all your support  especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, without which we would not be able to continue this important work.

Happy World Gorilla Day!
