Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka received the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) Medal for "Tourism Personality of the Month April 2014"

Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH) CEO Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka was awarded the 2014 month of April Tourism Personality medal at the AUTO secretariat for her outstanding tourism achievement in creating awareness about striking the right balance between conservation and economics on CNN African Voices.


She gathered the highest social media votes amongst the other month of April nominees who included; Baluku Geoffrey (Organizer of the successful Uganda Tourism Night), Waturi Matu (Brain behind the East African Destination guide Publication) and Ayishar Nagudi (Uganda’s representative in the forthcoming Miss World Heritage in Lesotho).

Kalema-Zikusoka has been working tirelessly for some two decades to create an environment where gorillas and people can coexist safely in an area with one of the highest rural human population densities in the continent.

The Veterinary doctor has received a number of awards for her environmental and humanitarian work. In 2009, she won the Whitley Gold Award for her conservation work. She is also an Ashoka Fellow and chairperson on the first Buganda Board of Heritage and Tourism.
